Of the 12 pitches, 8 are 5.11, including two pitches of 5.11+. The climbing is incredibly varied, including slab, stemming, bouldery cruxes, splitter cracks, OW, power layback, and technical dihedral trickery.

John Schroeder and five St. Mary’s students (Chris Kalman, Sarah Posey, Allison Mull, Claudia Peknik, and Erica Schuetz) have received a fully funded research grant to study Engaged Buddhism in Thailand this summer. Their project begins at Webster University in Hua Hin, Thailand where the five students will receive six days of intensive workshops on Buddhist philosophy and religion, the different traditions of Buddhism in SE Asia, and the history of Engaged Buddhism in Thailand.

Their route ascends two-thirds of a 1400-foot buttress beneath Blackwell Glacier adjacent to A Peak's (8,634') northeast face. After 300 feet of easy terrain, Blackwell Falls angles up for continuously steep WI5 and M4 climbing that Coldiron describes as "just plain fun." Though many lines in the area were out of condition due to recent atypically warm temperatures, the north-facing route was still fat and in great shape, according to Coldiron.

Everything was still, and quiet save for the clinking of ice screws against one another, the grind of crampons and tools scraping on rocks, and a few birds chirping in the early morning light. From February 2 to 3, less than two weeks after establishing La Travesia del Oso Buda—aka the Reverse Torre Traverse— Colin Haley and Marc-Andre Leclerc climbed the first complete ascent of Cerro Torre's north face. Haley and Leclerc, both arriving most recently from Squamish, British Columbia (Haley is originally from Washington state), have made major ascents in back-to-back weather windows in El Chalten.
